Milford Mill (+52)
My first ever outing to Milford Mill, a well-known 'warbler trap' just off the beltway, popular with migrant birds and Baltimore birders. It only has one trail, a short tarmac loop along the river and back up through the woods, but on a beautiful afternoon, it lived up to its billling. Surprisingly, the diversity of warblers was rather thin (Yellow-rumped and Northern Parula), but a beautiful Rose-breasted Grosbeak kicked things off admirably. Its chip note really does sound like basketball shoes squeaking on the floor. Next up, a Red-eyed Vireo, being very vocal, and a Baltimore Oriole over the river. The only other event of note was seeing a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher delivering flies to its strange little mudhut nest in teh crook of a branch (nest pic, no bird).
