Funny how things turn out. No Redpolls, my most likely, or Bohemian Waxwings, but I did see two great birds, and fantastic looks at them too... First up, a Great Horned Owl, eating a squirrel in a tree above the path, unconcerned about passers by.
That last one is the owl watching some flyover mallards - birdwatchingbirdwatching.
Then I was told where I might find some Evening Grosbeaks (a life bird) and there were four (1 male, 3 female) chowing down on a berry-laden little tree.
Definitely enough to make two hours trudging around in snow and 10 degrees F seem like a delight.
