Sunday afternoon outing to the Patuxent National Wildlife Reserve. There is a nice viewing area indoors overlooking the lake, but only one telescope was fully functioning, pointed into the setting sun, and the ice limited the lakes observable inhabitants to one new duck (about 20 of it) and some Canada geese. (pic: mockingbird - no. 18)
We also got out around the lake, and for a little walk in woodland (mixed).
New birds today:
41. Tufted Titmouse
42. Slate-colored Junco
43. Carolina Chickadee (assuming not black-capped chickadee from the range and slight differences - both a little shaky, but not indefensible)
44. Ring-necked Duck
45. Black Vulture
46. Red-bellied Woodpecker
47. Turkey Vulture
Some 'maybes' that won't count yet: bluebird, blue jay, (house?) wren.
I am now a full month ahead of schedule, so expect I can maintain pace until about the end of March. Tomorrow is a holiday courtesy of the Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr. so we might get some more fresh air.
